Volleyball is one of the oldest sports invented and still manages to attract millions of fans all over the world. Although not as popular as football, players still need to be an exemplary shape and often enough make tremendous efforts to gain muscles while reducing the intake of calories.

Without a doubt, volleyball is a soliciting sport that requires all of your muscle groups, not only the ones in your hands. Volleyball is usually played in teams of six members each but, unlike other sports, it has the freedom of choosing different types of courts, from indoor gyms to beaches and even grass fields. It has been a steady presence at the Olympic Games since 1964 and has gathered the increasing support of fans ever since.

Zhu Ting

Born in China in 1994, this professional volleyball player, although extremely young, has won the title of the best female volleyball player in 2016. She is also one of the tallest volleyball players, measuring 1.98m.

She is the captain of China’s national volleyball team and currently is signed with a volleyball team from Istanbul, Turkey.

Zhu joined the Chinese national team when she was 19 years old, back in 2013. Ever since then she managed to win a series of national and international recognition, including the world’s most wanted title for an athlete, a gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

Some of her other triumphs include a silver medal at the 2014 World Championship held in Italy, the World Cup won in Japan in 2015, as well as a gold medal at the World Grand Champions Cup held in 2017 in Japan. She also won the Asian Championship in 2015 with her former team. Also, in December 2017, after winning the Turkish Cup with her club team, she was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title.


Yekaterina Gamova

Born Yekaterina Aleksandrovna Gamova, she is a retired Russian volleyball player born in 1980. She is also one of the most famous Russian volleyball players and stuns with her beauty, as well as with her height, at 2.02m. She was a member of the Russian National Volleyball Team as has won several distinctions and medals at national and international competitions.

From 2000 to 2009 Gamova played for two Russian teams, including Dynamo Moscow before joining another reputed European team in 2009, the Turkish Fenerbahce. She was a member of the Russian National Team for 21 years, from 1995 to 2016 when she finally decided to retire.

Amongst her most valuable achievements, we can include two silver medals with the Russian National Team at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games in Sydney and Athens, as well as two gold medals at the World Championships in 2006 and 2010, both held in Japan. She also won the FIVB World Grand Prix competition twice, in 1999, and in 2002. In Europe, Gamova scored two gold medals at the European Championships in 1999 in Italy and in 2001 in Bulgaria.

Antonella Del Core

She is an Italian professional volleyball player born in Naples in 1980. She is an active member of the Italian National Volleyball Team and has played for various clubs in Italy, Turkey, and Russia between 1997 and 1998.

Del Core only measures 1.8m, making her a rather short professional volleyball player. Nevertheless, throughout her career, she achieved various recognitions of her value and has participated in two Olympic Games, in 2004 and 2012, both along with her colleagues from the National Volleyball Team of Italy.

Although her team didn’t manage to score a medal at these Olympic Summer Games, Del Core manages to remain one of Italy’s most prolific and popular volleyball players.

Some of her most notable achievements are one gold medal at the 2009 World Grand Champions Cup held in Japan, as well as two gold medals at the FIVB World Cup in 2007 and 2011, both also held in Japan. She also managed to win two European Championship titles in 2007 and 2009, in Belgium and Poland.

Ever since she joined the Russian volleyball team, Dinamo Kazan, back in 2013, she managed to win the 2014 FIVB Club World Championship and two times the Russian Championship. Del Core was recognized as one of the world’s few players to have impressive all-around volleyball skills, meaning she can play in every position.


Sheilla Castro

Born Sheilla Tavares de Castro in 1983, she is one of the most prolific Brazilian volleyball players ever. She plays as an opposite both in the Brazilian National Team as well as for a Brazilian volleyball club team.

She received the recognition of being the Most Valuable Player back in 2006 and 2009 for her astonishing results with the Brazilian national team. She also received a wide array of individual and team recognition throughout her career.

Some of her most notable achievements include two gold medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing, 2008, and in London, 2012. De Castro also won two silver medals at the FIVB World Championships in 2006 and 2010 held in Japan, and a silver medal at the 2007 FIVB World Cup. She was also part of the Brazilian team that won a gold medal at the Pan-American Cups in 2006, 2009, and 2011. In 2007 and 2008 she was part of the same team and managed to score second.
